As Twitchy noted, newly-elected Democrat Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said and tweeted a number of stupid things since winning her 2018 election. But her reaction to the horrific mass shooting at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand went over the top.
She started by bashing prayer, followed up with a call for her idea of “unity,” then seemed to blame the NRA for the shooting, obviously ignorant of New Zealand’s gun laws.
“At 1st I thought of saying, ‘Imagine being told your house of faith isn’t safe anymore.’ But I couldn’t say ‘imagine.’ Because of Charleston. Pittsburgh. Sutherland Springs. What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don’t even keep the pews safe?” she tweeted.

But I couldn’t say “imagine.”

After tweeting this, she followed up with: “This is a time of great vulnerability for our communities. We must come together, fight for each other, & stand up for neighbors. Isolation, dehumanizing stereotypes, hysterical conspiracy theories, & hatred ultimately lead to the anarchy of violence. We cannot stand for it.”
This is a time of great vulnerability for our communities.
We must come together, fight for each other, & stand up for neighbors.
Isolation, dehumanizing stereotypes, hysterical conspiracy theories, & hatred ultimately lead to the anarchy of violence.
We cannot stand for it.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 15, 2019
Wait a minute… Isn’t she doing exactly what she claims we “cannot stand” for?
She then clarified:
(“Thoughts and prayers” is reference to the NRA’s phrase used to deflect conversation away from policy change during tragedies. Not directed to PM Ardern, who I greatly admire.)
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 15, 2019
In other words, Ocasio-Cortez just crapped all over Christians and NRA members but not PM Arden.
Dana Loesch was one of many not impressed with Ocasio-Cortez:
Pretty sure thoughts and prayers isn’t anyone’s phrase, and prayer especially (which you mocked earlier after what happened in a house of prayer?) is a real action, a petition to, a conversation with, God — in this case, to request protection, comfort for those suffering.
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 15, 2019
Michelle Malkin also took the self-described Green New Deal “boss” to task:
Right on cue (or rather, Left on cue): Blasting innocent people for praying about innocent people of faith murdered by a faithless evildoer in a house of worship where people gather to…pray.https://t.co/5Skn7sM5eR
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) March 15, 2019
Others weighed in:
Prayer is the reason for places of worship.

If one of your first 1000 thoughts after a horrific mass shooting is to go dunk on a person, a religious belief or an organization on Twitter, you should delete your account.

We agree…

You mean, besides being a “pompous little twit” who apparently is a legend in her own mind?
Our thoughts & prayers do matter.
No, prayers won’t bring back loved ones, but prayers bring comfort, respite & God's grace to those who mourn.
Anyone who's lost a loved one to tragic death, murder, or terror knows prayers matter.
Don’t let @AOC or the left tell you otherwise.
— Liz Wheeler (@Liz_Wheeler) March 15, 2019
We agree wholeheartedly.
And if AOC had spent about five seconds on Google, she would have realized that New Zealand has some pretty strict gun laws… Unfortunately, “if” can be a pretty big word…
