NOT Satire: Portland Bans Urinals in Men’s Restrooms

Portland bans urinals is a reasonable headline …and it’s true. The “woke” city has decided that they will not have urinals in any portion of a building they remodeled.  Because they’re worried about “shared values.” They have redesigned the bathrooms to be “gender neutral.”

The building they are remodeling (to the tune of $195 Million) is the “Portland Building.”

“We will continue to have gender-specific (male and female) multi-stall restrooms that are readily available to any employee that prefers to use one. But, there will be no urinals in any restroom in the building. This will give us the flexibility we need for any future changes in signage.” Chief Administrative Officer Tom Rinehart

‘Flexibility?’ Fortunately, it’s just one building. anything else would be an unmitigated disaster.

Radio personality Lars Larson said that ‘obviously no one in the city of Portland has ever noticed the lines at women’s restrooms.’ He’s right. Sometimes we have to stand in line for several minutes or longer, all because we don’t use a urinal. Holidays on the road are a great example – if you can’t hold it, too bad, because when everyone is headed for the best tourist attraction at the same time and stops to go potty, it can get ugly.  City employees are not likely to give up their place in line for some guy who has to go, although it sounds like they’ll have plenty of bathrooms to go around.

Not real crazy about having men next to me in a stall, either, although it happens a lot in “woke” Europe. It’s quite the shocker when you come out of a stall and there are two men standing there, one of whom looks a little scary. It’s sort of normal to them, and sometimes it’s because some of us can’t read the language and pick the wrong restroom. Never mind. It happens to us all at some point.

I picked the wrong side at a rest stop once and when I came out (the men inside calmly left while staring), there was a gentleman standing at the door waiting. He pointed to the free coffee stand and politely said, “Ma’am, you look really tired. You need some coffee.”

To which I replied, “Yes I agree. I’m exhausted from driving. But then I’d just have to go to the bathroom again and would probably repeat my error.” We both laughed, but he was genuinely concerned, bless his heart.

Portland bans urinals to make all the bathrooms generic for everybody. Most men will notice, especially when they’re in a hurry. And it’s also true that urinals take less water than toilets. But I guess you can’t be “woke” and “water conscious” at the same time, eh?

KGW8 reported,

“I think it’s kind of ridiculous. After all what are they gonna do? Make everything one thing?” asked Frieda Applegate.

Actually yes, sort of.

The building’s 1st, 3rd and 15th floors will have large multi-stall bathrooms that men and women will use together.

Other floors will have separate men’s and women’s bathrooms.

But every floor will have at least one any gender bathroom.

Over all there will be 42 “all-user stalls” as the city calls them and 104 gender specific stalls.

Gender and bathroom use has been a big deal when it comes to those who are transgender or gender fluid.

$195 million for all of that. Think about it.
